New identification guides for Villa bee-flies and Haematopota horseflies

page from Villa bee-fly identification guideTwo new identification guides have been added to the website today, one covering the bee-flies in genus Villa, and the other for horseflies (or clegs) in genus Haematopota. Both groups contain some tricky species and hopefully these guides will help you recognise them, and to find and record these fascinating flies. Many thanks to the people who have contributed photos or advice (Andy Grayson, Janet Graham and Silvie Herault), and as usual a very big thank you to Steven Falk for permission to use photos from his brilliant Flickr collections. Thanks also to the Angela Marmont Centre at the Natural History Museum for allowing use of specimens and photo-stacking equipment for the Haematopota guide.

The guides can be downloaded from the Identification guides page.
